Zen Spider-Man table

The Spider-Man table was already part of the in-app purchases for the Zen Pinball 2 application on the Mac. For unfathomable reasons the table was not available on iOS till now. With the last update of Zen Pinball Spider-Man arrived at last to iDevices.

My usual critiques, concerning Zen tables apply here. I searched on YouTube for an extended gameplay on the Spider-Man table and I did convince myself that I was not going to invest into this game. You may have a different opinion.

Zaccaria Combat

A new table has been added to the Zaccaria collection of ASK Homework. It is called Combat at it is supposed to have a war-oriented theme.

I have had a rather positive attitude towards the most recent Zaccaria tables (to tell the truth the only table I really did like a lot was Aerobatics), but Combat just does not make the cut. I played the game a couple of times and I decided that it was not really worth spending more time on it. Still one has to appreciate the fact that the Zaccaria collection will, with the next table, reach number 30, a real feat.

As always, if you are into vintage pinballs, you can give Combat a try.

Zen pinball new tables

As you probably have noticed by now, I do not like particularly the pinballs of Zen Studios. Obviously this does not apply to all their pinballs, since there are quite a few that I do like. In fact, what I do not like are the exaggerated animations that make their pinballs un-pinball-like. Certainly there are people who do like such pinballs, otherwise Zen Studios would have gone out of business long ago.

The two new tables, just released by Zen fall in the category of excessive animation. Of course both, Castlestorm

and Wild West Rampage

look great graphically and the physics is OK. However, after watching a long video of gameplay, I decided that these two tables were not for me. It’s probably because I am old school when it comes to pinball and I prefer tables that do mimic electromechanical pinballs as faithfully as possible.

It goes without saying that this is not a negative review but just a statement of my personal taste and thus you are invited to have a look at these new tables and decide whether you find them attractive.

Atomic Pinball

While reading the reader comments on Timeshock and Addams Family reviews in Toucharcade I stumbled upon a comment of somebody who was highly recommending Atomic Pinball. I was intrigued and went over to the iTunes store to download the game. It turned out that It(s a pinball we already knew I have written about the first table, Revenge of the Rob-o-bot, in a previous post of mine.

The new version of the pinball comes with a new name and a new table: Masks of Glory.

The spanish sub-title, Leyendas de Lucha Libre, makes clear what is this all about. I spent some time with the game which has great graphics, quite acceptable physics, and a simple but not-uninteresting gameplay. 

Reporting on Rob-o-bot I was saying that I found the game rather cute. The same does apply on Masks of Glory. It is not a great pinball but it is well above the trash that infests the iTunes store. I will keep an eye open for more releases by Color Monkey (as is the new name of Nena Innovation, who produced Rob-o-bot and Dino Madness).
